ESSAY

The name Marasuchus was given to some specimens formerly referred to Lagosuchus. However, the type specimen of Lagosuchus is too fragmentary to be sure that the Marasuchus specimens are the same animal as it. This genus is named after the mara, a South American hare-like relative of guinea pigs.
